Yes it's good that he has lent his support to this cause, but if I'm honest I sometimes find his choice of support difficult to understand. Like how does he feel so moved for some causes and yet, not so moved by perhaps more obvious ones.
Such as I couldn't help but be very disappointed when he didn't feel compelled enough to lend his support more greatly for the 'Angelman Syndrome' being as his son has the condition? Someone of Colin's position could have been such a much needed asset for helping people to understand the condition more clearly.
But each and everyone to their own. I'm sure he had his reasons, but I just found his statement of rather concentrating on being a father... how shall, I say a little weak?!
I agree Gemini.. He's in a perfect position to help other parents of AS children. Many don't have the money to take their children to the best doctors like Colin does for Jimmy..and we know he's getting the best. It is strange he lends his name to all these other causes, yet not AS. I think maybe he doesn't want Jimmy in the spotlight, but he could still start a foundation or support ones already established. A bit odd indeed.
Well let's not be too hasty here. He might support the Angelman Foundation greatly and just doesn't advertise it. Just because it's not made public, doesn't mean that he doesn't at all. I do think it has everything to do with him not wanting Jimmy in the spotlight. I don't think Jimmy having Angelman was ever something he wanted public, but he knew it was going to come out at some point, so he released it. He's been very involved in Special Olympics in the past, so he is supportive of childrens causes. As far as the Peruvians, unfortunately, that does smack of being a good PR kind of thing. I mean, what did he really do? He sent a text message, that sounds like someone else wrote it. But to be fair he might have donated and just doesn't say it. We'll probably never know.
Yeah, as for the Peruvians I agree, it's coming across as your average celeb being seen to lend their name to help the cause because everyone else is.
Regarding AS, while I can understand him wanting to keep his son out of the media spotlight, I still, cannot help but feel saddened for the families living with AS, in that Colin doesn't feel he can lend his name in a more public way being as it would really help generate more awareness of the condition and surely that can only serve to benefit everyone?
I expect he does support AS in private, but why promote so openly other causes, yet not want to be connected to the very one, most people would automtically expect you to be? It just seems a little strange to me.
I'm with Virgo. If Colin were to become a spokesperson for AS, Jimmy would automatically become a poster child for the cause. I bet Colin does a lot privately to support the cause while protecting his young son from the spotlight. I find his concern for his little boy over the demands of putting his celebrity 100% behind the cause sweet.
I'm also with Virgo, having a child with AG syndrom is not easy if you're Farrell or not as we can see bad things can heppen to everyone even if you're celebrity so I think maybe he's donating money for this cause but without making noise all around it.I can't blame him he's protecting he's son.
I agree, I don't blame him for wanting to protect his son as only a parent knows how... but sometimes, some things, need that extra bit of public awareness in order to become understood more clearly. And in this paricular situation I think Colin could have done more to 'support' the cause, other than just confirming his son has the same condition.
That said, I am in no way saying he is not concerned, or gives his private support to the cause, but I just find it hard to digest that he is so open with other causes and yet not with something so obvious and understandable... it's almost as if he's deliberately trying to avoid association... and I'm really sorry, I just don't get that?
However, I'm so glad this blog is allowing me and other people to discuss opinions openly, and without censor-ship because that is ultimately the point?! Nobody is right, or wrong. How can we be... when it's about somebody's else's life we are not even involved in?! :-)
Maybe the decision is not entirely Colin's? If he were to make a more public support of AS and it's suffers .The public would expect updates on James health and progress. This would mean getting Kim's approval and maybe she does not want James to be exposed to the same pressure has other children of celebeties are by the paparazzi and media?
That is a really interesting point, and one I had not considered, which is terrible considering I'm a mother myself! Thank you Honey for making me look at this aspect also ;-)
Nice to hear that Colin does good things. So, not only 'women' in his head :)
ReplyDeleteIt's probably some kind of PR step, but as long as it's for good cause....
