WHOOPS... SLOW DOWN SPEEDY!
Oh this story did make me laugh... seems not even Mr. Farrell is above the law!
Hollywood movie star Colin Farrell has been fined for a late-night speeding offence in Bath.
The Phonebooth and Miami Vice actor was caught by a speed camera driving at 45mph in a 30mph zone in his Range Rover in London Road.
The father of two was snapped at 1.49am on June 27 last year.
He failed to appear at Bath Magistrates Court yesterday to answer two charges, but instead sent in a handwritten letter of apology.
The 33-year-old, who holds an American driving licence, pleaded guilty to both the speeding offence and failing to provide information identifying the driver of the vehicle.
He said the car was registered to a film production company based at Ealing Studios in London.
His letter said: "I sincerely apologise for not having responded to the original notice of intended prosecution as the initial notice and further correspondence in regard to the speeding offence were delivered to Ealing Studios.
"I am, and have been, residing in the United States and therefore have not received or been aware of the information regarding this offence.
"The Range Rover was registered at the company address and therefore the correspondence was delivered there.
"I look forward to resolving this matter with the court's assistance and once again apologise for the lapse in correspondence due to the mishandling of address material by the production company at Ealing Studios."
Magistrates heard that Farrell did not have any other driving licence endorsements in the UK.
The Dublin-born actor was fined £60, ordered to pay £35 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge, and has been given three penalty points on his licence.
Farrell, whose latest film, the Oscar-nominated Crazy Heart, will reach UK cinemas next month, has been given 21 days to pay his fine.
The fixed speed camera on London Road was installed in 2005, although the road is notorious for its nose-to-tail traffic.

Well, here is Brasil we have so much violence on roads that we are allowed to speed up on wee hours like 2 am. And colin wasn't really speeding 45 miles equals 72 kilometers per hour. I loved the coments gemini. Did you see them??FERB
ReplyDeleteThe people of Bath certainly seemed satisfied with the result =))
ReplyDeleteWell that is 30km over the speed limit. I almost lost my licence going 30 over with a 130 dollar fine. The road was a country road with one other car on it at 8:30am, a cop, whom happened to be there for his monthly quota and I got burned. 80km country road going 110km...at 8:30 in the morning with NO CARS AROUND. luckily I was on my way to work to a young offenders facility and he let me off with a fine of 55 dollars to write an aggressive drivers exam...which was open book.
